The Pacific National Exhibition is an iconic institution in BC, famous for bringing generations of people together to celebrate and build memories. This 113 year old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of over $70 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams: the 15 day annual summer Fair and winter Fair which average more than 700,000 people annually, Playland amusement park which welcomes 400,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, and a busy year-round portfolio of events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events. In total we bring over 2 million people through the site each year. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance. We are seeking diligent and hard-working individuals that have a passion for the Events industry and the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). Our Facility and Maintenance team works work under the direction of the Director, PNE Maintenance & Facility. They will be the lead operator for a variety of mobile and mechanical vehicles onsite. They will work with tools/equipment in compliance with all health and safety requirements as determined by WorkSafeBC, and all other applicable legislation and company policies.

What will you do this year?

In your role as an Operator Specialist, your primary accountabilities will include:

 

Operational Duties

  • Read and interpret work orders, maps and blueprints for all year-round events and self-produced events.
  • Suggest improvements to equipment and equipment related procedures.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including tact diplomacy and flexibility to work effectively with management, staff, contractors, and the public.
  • Set standard for equipment and vehicle cleanliness.
  • Ensure work is completed within specified time, and notify supervisor if difficulties arise.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment as required for maintenance, construction, and snow removal.
  • Perform minor routine maintenance on mobile equipment.
  • Lead small team on site for a variety of tasks.
  • Lead operation for a variety of mobile and mechanical equipment.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Safety & Training

  • Lead with a safety-first mindset and ensure all team members are working within Worksafe BC regulations, documenting toolbox talks, using FLHA’s and all other safety related documents.
  • Abide by corporate policies and reinforce corporate policies among all team members.
  • Assist Foreperson III in the Coaching and Mentoring of all labour crew.
  • Must maintain valid equipment certifications.
  • Review and Follow Safety Documentation (Toolbox Talks, FLHA, SOG’s Policies) to staff pertaining to Equipment Operations.
  • Ensure crews are adhering to safety policies and are educated on best practices.
  • Ensure crews are informed of and are wearing the appropriate PPE for tasks.
  • Ensure daily vehicle checks are completed and documented and submit work requests for vehicles and equipment that need servicing.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment – site wide.

 

Fair Time Duties

  • Schedule change based on operational needs.
  • Summer Fair – August 1st to September 30th
  • Winter Fair – December 1st to January 15th

 

What else?

  • Previous experience within an Equipment Operator capacity is required.
  • Must have considerable applicable equipment operation experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to operate all equipment safely and effectively.
  • Must be skilled in the operation of specified equipment and in use of tools used in servicing and minor maintenance.
  • Must possess knowledge of the methods and practices used in servicing, adjusting and maintaining equipment operated.
  • A valid 5th class BC Driver’s license and the ability to provide a clear and up-to-date Driver's Abstract is required.
  • Forklift Certification required.
  • Must be trained and have experience on the following equipment:  Skid Steers, forklifts, zoom booms, sweeper trucks, flusher tractors, Ice resurfacing machines, UTV's, Snow removal equipment, loaders, blowers, hotsie pressure washers, scissor lifts, and scrubbers.
  • Must have knowledge of Work Safe BC Regulations.
  • Must maintain valid equipment certifications.
  • Must have knowledge of Work Safe BC Regulations.
  • Knowledge of servicing and maintaining equipment frequently used in construction trade is considered an asset.
  • Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
  • Work Schedule: Tuesday to Friday 7:00AM – 5:00 PM OR Friday to Monday 7:00AM – 5:00 PM.
