Part-time Seasonal: (May – August)

Wage & Pay Grade: $18/hr. (PG72) plus 10% in lieu of benefits and vacation

Who we are… 

The Pacific National Exhibition is an iconic institution in BC, famous for bringing generations of people together to celebrate and build memories. This 114-year-old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of over $70 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams:  the 15-day annual summer Fair and winter Fair which average more than 700,000 people annually, Playland amusement park which welcomes 400,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, and a busy year-round portfolio of events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events.  In total we bring over 2 million people through the site each year. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance.  The PNE is proud of the work it does at Hastings Park and has a vibrant team that is passionate about events, guest experience and delivering memorable experiences.

We are looking for energetic, enthusiastic, and hardworking individuals to join our PNE Team to help bring life to the Pacific National Exhibitions Mascot, KC Bear; and to create a memorable experience for our guests. This role will be working with guests of all ages, and plays an important role in promoting an engaging, creative, and fun atmosphere during the Playland and Fair season at the PNE!

What will you DO this year?

In your role as a Mascot Performer/Handler, your primary accountabilities will be to:

  • Interact with guests of all ages including but not limited to taking photos with guests
  • Preserve the identity of the Mascot without deviating from established character including body language/mannerisms, attitude, guest interaction and overall representation
  • Maintain performance standards at the highest level of professional expectations
  • Maintain a positive rapport with guests and staff at all times
  • Provide a helpful and entertaining experience to all guests
  • Providing professional guest service, and working with guests of all ages
  • Working well in a fast-paced environment

 What else?

  • Must have successful completion of Grade 11
  • Past experience working as a mascot considered an asset
  • Ability to fit into the KC Bear Costume. (Recommend height: 5”5-5”9)
  • Must have previous work experience in a customer service capacity, entertainment, or other relevant work experience dealing with the public
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be comfortable around children and in large crowds
  • Must be able to improvise and interact with guests
  • Ability to deal with the public in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner
  • Must be an energetic and self-motivated team player with a positive attitude and a strong desire to succeed
  • Must have strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work well under minimal supervision; problem solve and deal with difficult situations under pressure
  • Physical ability and stamina to spend extended hours walking and standing outdoors.
  • Must have a strong tolerance for heat and working in the sun.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts from May - August including daytime, evenings, weekends, and late nights
