Must be available for and may be required to work evenings as late as 1 AM

Wage & Paygrade: $20.24/hr (PG 72) plus 10% in lieu of benefits and vacation

The Pacific National Exhibition is an iconic institution in BC, famous for bringing generations of people together to celebrate and build memories. This 115-year-old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of over $70 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams:  the 15-day annual summer Fair which averages more than 700,000 people annually, Playland amusement park which welcomes 400,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, and a busy year-round portfolio of events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events.  In total we bring over 2 million people through the site each year. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance.  The PNE is proud of the work it does at Hastings Park and has a vibrant team that is passionate about events, guest experience and delivering memorable experiences.

 Fright Nights at the PNE is Western Canada’s Scariest Haunt, having multiple Haunted Houses and other attractions on-site in Playland. The PNE is looking for Actors that have a passion for the Halloween events industry and the PNE.

 

We are looking for talented individuals to join our Fair and Festivals Operations (FFO) Department to help us scare the wits out of our Fright Nights guests! The Haunted Attractions Cast Members of the FFO Department will work under the direction of the Production Managers & Supervisor and will dress up in costume and act out an assigned role. Cast members will be provided with safety training, costume and make-up and they will work in compliance with all health and safety requirements as determined by WorkSafeBC, and all other applicable legislation and company policies.

What will you do this year?

 

In your role as an Actor within our Haunted Attractions, your primary accountabilities will be to:

  • Maintain performance standards at the highest level of professional expectations
  • Always maintain a positive rapport with guests and staff
  • Assist in maintaining a fully immersive environment for guest
  • Use improvisational acting to scare and entertain guests within the attraction
  • Use full body movement, speech, and gestures to scare and entertain guests within the attraction
  • Provide an entertaining and safe experience to all guests
  • Provide professional guest service, and working with guests of all ages
  • Work well in a fast-paced environment

 

Available Roles

 

We are looking for talented energetic individuals to fill the following positions and specific character roles inside and outside of their correlating themed attractions:

  • Large intimidating demons
  • Evil, menacing, and creepy clowns
  • Undead Victorian family members
  • Human form reptiles, insects, and animals
  • Deformed boogeymen
  • Possessed dolls (ability to portray seemingly unnatural body movements an asset)
  • Evil cave dwelling & forest creatures
  • Other varied roles as need

 

We are also seeking individuals to fill the Prep – Reserve for Actors role; successful candidates will be chosen from the interview process for this position.  

 

What else?

 

  • Completion of Grade 11 by September 1, 2025 is required
  • Current related Acting experience or education, including a high school drama program
  • Previous theatre background an asset
  • Ability to wear a costume (including face mask, face paint, latex, silicon and/or make-up inclusive of fake blood)
  • Ability to work in dark and potentially confined spaces
  • Ability to work in spaces with strobe lights, loud noises, smells, and other environments that may cause sensory issues
  • Ability to spend a large part of the workday walking and standing
  • Ability to function both independently and in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of the Halloween Industry considered an asset
  • Love of Halloween/horror considered an asset
  • Must be comfortable with gore and the macabre including with in costumes and make up
  • Good communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to work extended hours and workweeks as required throughout the month of October
  • Must be able to work all mandatory training dates throughout the month of September

Auditions for Fright Nights will be held on the PNE site on Monday, August 18 & Monday, August 25.
