This 115-year-old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of over $70 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams: the 15-day annual summer Fair which averages more than 700,000 people annually, Playland amusement park which welcomes 400,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, and a busy year-round portfolio of events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events.  In total we bring over 2 million people through the site each year. The Production & Repair Foreperson is a leadership role within the Facilities & Maintenance department, overseeing a diverse team in Carpentry, Painting, Signs, and technical support. This position is responsible for planning and managing repairs, production support, and maintenance across PNE facilities, ensuring seamless event operations and site upkeep. Combining expertise in trade-specific tasks, safety compliance, and administrative oversight, the role is vital to operational excellence and guest satisfaction at the PNE.

What will you do this year? 

In your role as a Production and repair Foreperson your primary accountabilities will be to:  

  • Lead and coordinate Carpentry, Painting, Signs, and technical teams to execute production, repair, and site maintenance tasks.
  • Oversee team scheduling, workload distribution, and project prioritization to meet operational goals.
  • Train and mentor staff to enhance efficiency, safety, and technical skills.
  • Communicate clear responsibilities and performance expectations to all team members.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for team members to develop new skills and knowledge through training and mentorship, ensuring continuous improvement and growth.
  • Collaborate with management on performance evaluations and disciplinary actions, supporting team growth and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Provide technical and operational support for event productions, including custom-built assets and stage setups.
  • Ensure seamless integration of Production & Repair activities into event workflows, supporting setups for Fright Nights, the Summer Fair, and other major events.
  • Manage the sign installation program and other custom event-related projects.
  • Conduct regular inspections of PNE facilities and grounds, creating detailed scope of work and work orders for required repairs or enhancements.
  • Manage site repairs, renovations, and asset maintenance programs to ensure longevity and functionality.
  • Utilize software tools like Limble (PNE Parksside CMMS), Mobaro (Playlands CMMS) and Momentus (PNE’s Event software)to implement and track preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Ability to create detailed timelines, notes on projects, event set up and tear downs, including Fair and Fright Nights.
  • Develop and manage the Fairs and Festivals Asset assessment, maintenance and storage program.
  • Suggest improvements to inspections, assessments, assets and infrastructure around site to better support our guests and clients.
  • Manage the Production & Repair vehicle fleet, ensuring preventive maintenance and compliance with safety standards.
  • Oversee the safe operation of tools, vehicles, and mobile equipment, including specialty equipment like Telehandlers and Cranes.
  • Address and document incidents related to vehicle or equipment operation.
  • Conduct weekly toolbox talks, daily field level hazard assessments, and equipment inspections to uphold WorkSafe BC standards.
  • Ensure adherence to WorkSafe BC and company safety protocols during all tasks.
  • Review incident reports and enforce the use of proper PPE for all team members.
  • Develop and enforce Safe Operating Guidelines (SOGs) for labor and equipment use.
  • Proactively address and mitigate safety risks, ensuring a safe environment for staff, contractors, and guests.
  • Align team workload with operational deadlines and objectives.
  • Ensure timely submission of timesheets, manage overtime schedules, and document all event installation processes.
  • Prepare reports on maintenance metrics, costs, and operational efficiency for management review.
  • This role will support with the oversight of the set-up fencing and tents.
  • Support management to build budgets for projects and site wide repairs.
  • Perform all other related duties as required.

 

What else? 

  • Minimum 5-8 years of supervisory experience in a related field (e.g., Carpentry, Painting, or Technical Maintenance) or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experienced in managing diverse workforces across a range of trades and specialties
  • Strong background in event production and site maintenance.
  • Thorough knowledge of carpentry, painting, signage installation, and equipment operation.
  • Proficiency in using CMMS software (e.g., Limble, Momentous) for scheduling and tracking maintenance tasks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs is an asset.
  • Familiarity with WorkSafe BC safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with a clean abstract.
  • Forklift Operator’s Certification and Telehandler Operator License preferred.
  • Completion of a supervisory training program is an asset.
  • Completion of Leadership and Safety Training an asset.
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities to foster collaboration and accountability.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Tact, diplomacy, and flexibility to work with diverse stakeholders, including staff, contractors, and event clients.
  • Must have demonstrated reliability through regular attendance at work.
  • Must have a demonstrated track record of adhering to corporate policies
  • Must have demonstrated a strong work ethic and drive to organize work effectively and efficiently
  • Must have demonstrable leadership skills through experience with task delegation while ensuring work productivity, safety and efficiency of the labour crew. 
  • Must possess excellent leadership and supervisory skills and have the ability to coach and performance manage staff as required.
  • Full-time, permanent position with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Comfortable working at heights and operating heavy equipment within WorkSafe restrictions.
  • Ability to be on call for emergency purposes outside of working hours.
  • Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
