Wage & Paygrade: $20.24/hr. (PG 72) plus 10% in lieu of benefits & vacation

The Pacific National Exhibition is an iconic institution in BC, famous for bringing generations of people together to celebrate and build memories. This 115-year-old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of over $70 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams:  the 15-day annual summer Fair which averages more than 700,000 people annually, Playland amusement park which welcomes 400,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, and a busy year-round portfolio of events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events.  In total we bring over 2 million people through the site each year. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance.  The PNE is proud of the work it does at Hastings Park and has a vibrant team that is passionate about events, guest experience and delivering memorable experiences.

The Fair and Festival Operations department oversees the PNE’s 2 main events: The Fair & Fright Nights.

 

Fright Nights at the PNE is Western Canada’s Scariest Haunt; key features are roaming Scare Actors, Haunted Houses and other attractions and atmospheric programming on-site within Playland.

 

We are looking for motivated and hardworking individuals who have a passion for the haunt industry and have extensive experience in live events or TV/Film production. The Haunted Attractions Supervisor will report to the Festival Programs Managers and will be responsible for overseeing an attraction, provide clear communication of issues to the respective team members, and carry out safety protocols as outlined by the Festival Programs Managers, and Assist management with production elements during the run of the show and supporting fellow Haunted Attractions supervisory team members as needed.

 

Our ideal candidates will possess strong organizational & communication skills and will have a background in production, theater, or film. The Haunted Attractions Supervisor will work in compliance with all health and safety requirements as determined by WorkSafeBC, and all other applicable legislation and company policies.

What will you do this year?

In your role as our Merchandise Booth Attendant your primary accountabilities will be to:

  • Provide a safe environment for all team members. 
  • Report any deficiencies with the merchandise/location to supervisor/managerial staff.
  • Report any issues with staff or guests to respective team members.
  • Assist customers and staff as needed
  • Assist with opening and closing duties of merch location
  • Maintaining a clean workstation
  • Assist with inventory of merchandise.


Event Responsibilities

 

  • Assist with the operation of the merchandise booth through the evening.
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment.
  • Assist guests with transactions and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Assist with attraction readiness prior to opening.
  • Assist with closing duties as needed at EOD.
  • Assist with maintaining stock levels of merchandise.
  • Assist Management as needed with other duties that may be assigned.

 

What else?

  • Must have successfully completed Grade 12.
  • Ability to conduct themselves in a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to function both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts from September 10th – November 1st, evenings, weekends, and late nights.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and workweeks as required throughout the month of October.
  • Must be able to work all mandatory training dates throughout the month of September.
  • Ability to work in spaces with strobe lights, loud noises, smells, and other environments that may cause sensory issues.
  • Previous experience in retail considered an asset
  • Experience within the Halloween Industry is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be comfortable working around gore and the macabre including costumes and make up.
  • Must be proactive with the ability to trouble shoot and remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to work outdoors, in various weather, and spend a large part of the workday walking, and standing.
  • Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
