The Pacific National Exhibition is an iconic institution in BC, famous for bringing generations of people together to celebrate and build memories. This 115-year-old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of over $70 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams:  the 15 day annual summer Fair which averages more than 700,000 people annually, Playland amusement park which welcomes 400,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, and a busy year-round portfolio of events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events.  In total we bring over 2 million people through the site each year. We are seeking diligent and hard-working individuals that have a passion for the Events industry and the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). Our Facilities & Maintenance team works work under the direction of the Director, PNE Maintenance & Facility Operations and are responsible for site maintenance, and setup/teardown of events and janitorial tasks. They will provide direction and guidance to a small team on-site with a safety-first mindset and ensure all team members are working within Worksafe BC regulations and all other applicable legislation and company policies.

 

What will you do this year?

In your role as an Ice Official, your primary accountabilities will include:

 

Operational Duties

  • Service ice surfaces prior to games, during and between game periods
  • Inspect nets, repair nets and move nets as necessary
  • Sweep, shovel, and scrape edges of the ice surface
  • Fill in with water where the Zamboni misses
  • Fill in holes and gouges in the ice, etc with slush
  • Clean peg holes for nets
  • Place nets after flood
  • Clean boards and board glass as necessary
  • Replace board glass during game if necessary
  • Assist with pre-game, post-game and between period events as necessary
  • Keep a clean and tidy work area
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

What else?

  • Experience working with ice surfaces is required
  • Must be capable of working on and around the ice surface
  • Successful completion of Grade 10 recommended
  • Must be capable of working at heights and lifting heavy materials up to WCB restrictions; and physically able to work in awkward positions
  • Must possess knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions related to the work
  • Must be capable of reading, writing and speaking English for the purposes of written or oral instructions, timesheets and documentation of work
  • Ability to work in front of a large crowd
  • Ability to work in a quick and efficient manner
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including evening and weekend shifts as required
