The Pacific National Exhibition is an iconic institution in BC, famous for bringing generations of people together to celebrate and build memories. This 116-year-old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of over $70 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams:  the 15 day annual summer Fair which averages more than 700,000 people annually, Playland amusement park which welcomes 400,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, and a busy year-round portfolio of events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events.  In total we bring over 2 million people through the site each year. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance.  The PNE is proud of the work it does at Hastings Park and has a vibrant team that is passionate about events, guest experience and delivering memorable experiences.

We are looking for a passionate individual with a high degree of leadership skills to join our PNE Gaming Department. Assistant Manager, Wheels will report to the Manager, Gaming and work alongside management to oversee all operational procedures of the Midway Wheels of Fortune. What will you do this year?

In your role as an Assistant Manager, Wheels, your primary accountabilities will be to:

  • Oversee operational procedures for the PNE Midway Wheels of Fortune and related activities during PNE’s Annual Fair.
  • Assist the Manager, Gaming in ensuring that there is proper management and regulation of cash flow, procedures and documentation.
  • Assist in the setup of the Wheels of Fortune.
  • Assist in hiring, training, motivating and supervising the Wheels Attendants and Supervisors.
  • Watch guests, wheels attendants and supervisors for evidence of theft or apparent ties to dishonest players.
  • Complete necessary paperwork for new employees, uniforms, IDs etc.
  • Ensure proper PNE dress code is always adhered to.
  • Assist in completing the daily payroll and management reports.
  • Assist in operational aspects of the Lottery as required.
  • Support Gaming department with other projects and initiatives as required.
  • Correspond with other departments as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

What else?

  • Successful completion of grade 12 required.
  • Must be 19 years or older and eligible for registration with the Gaming Policy & Enforcement Branch (which requires undergoing a criminal record and credit check).
  • Previous experience supervising in a sales environment in Games or Gaming is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the basic operation of all Wheels of Fortune games.
  • Understanding of odds and numbers, intermediate math skills and good cash handling skills.
  • Ability to fairly and effectively enforce rules of play.
  • Ability to remain composed in stressful situations.
  • Must have strong computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly with Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
  • Possess superior communication and leadership skills.
  • Must be vigilant, strict, self-motivated, and can work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong time management, organizational, analytical and administrative skills.
  • Physically able to perform all work-related duties to assist with set up of Wheels of Fortune games; in addition to walking and standing for long periods of time during the Fair.
  • Able to workdays, evenings and weekends in July and August as required, as well as for the duration of the Fair.
  • Ability to follow and enforce PNE and Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GPEB) policies and procedures.
  • Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check.

Additional Information

The PNE's compensation offerings are in alignment with a pay-for-performance pay philosophy that recognizes individual, and teamwork performance. The role is a seasonal, contract position with a typical salary range of $21 - $22 per hour. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, experience, and internal pay structures.  As a part of the PNE's total compensation package, this position may be eligible for other benefits subject to program eligibility requirements.
